Wachovia Financial Center Wins Outstanding LEED EB Project Award

Cushman & Wakefield recently announced that Wachovia Financial Center was named Outstanding LEED EB Project by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) South Florida Chapter’s Galaverde Awards.
Wachovia Financial Center was Miami’s first office tower to receive the prestigious LEED Gold Certification, awarded earlier this year in a ceremony featuring Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez.  It is Miami’s tallest and largest office building, totaling 1.2 million square feet, and with more than one million square feet in use, has more square footage occupied than any other office tower in the state of Florida.  A pro-active philosophy of investing in energy-saving upgrades, combined with an on-going commitment to optimizing building operations, has enabled Wachovia Financial Center to meet the rigorous LEED certification standards. Cushman and Wakefield’s Don Cartwright and Nichole Lamoureaux handle the leasing assignment for Wachovia Financial Center, representing the building owner, which is advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management.
Wachovia Financial Center was selected for the award from a group of nominees.  Rick Fedrizzi, CEO and Founding Chair of the USGBC, was the event’s keynote speaker and presented the award.  Other awards included Outstanding LEED NC Project, Outstanding LEED CS Project and Outstanding LEED CI Project, among others.
Earlier this year, Wachovia Financial Center’s ownership completed an extensive renovation of the popular 30,000-square-foot outdoor plaza.  The tower’s Downtown Athletic Club puts the city’s best fitness center an elevator ride away, and the exclusive Miami City Club offers a penthouse level sanctuary for private dining.
The Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, overseen by the USGBC, is a voluntary, consensus-based national rating system for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings.  LEED addresses all building types and emphasizes state-of-the-art “green” strategies in five areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials and resources selection, and indoor environmental quality.
