Two National Retailers To Occupy 140,000 SF In Coral Springs

BJ’s Wholesale Club and Dick’s Sporting Goods and stores are slated to open in Coral Springs in the spring of 2014, the company developing the project said Tuesday.
“There’s really a need for the people of Coral Springs to have these two great retailers close by,” said Duane Stiller, president of Woolbright Development Inc. “These days, everything is about convenience.”
The stores will open at the Plaza at Coral Springs II, Stiller said, at the northwest corner of Atlantic Boulevard and Riverside Drive. The main buildings at the plaza, which are currently vacant, will be demolished this summer to make way for the new development, Stiller said. Several existing outparcels will remain.
“The community will be better off because we are recycling a plaza with buildings no longer viable the way they were configured,” he said. “This is really what you’ll see more and more of as we continue to grow and become more dense. There are lots of opportunities for new retailers to come in and recycle space.”
The Dick’s Sporting Goods store will be 54,000 square feet while BJ’s will occupy an estimated 86,700-square-foot space, the city said in a press release. The Coral Springs City Commission approved a request from the developer to proceed with the $35 million project last month.
“Retailers recognize that Coral Springs is an excellent place to do business, and this project adjacent to the Coral Square Mall will offer shoppers more variety to better meet their needs,” said Paul Cawley, executive director of the Coral Springs Economic Development Foundation.
In recent years, Coral Springs has become home to national retailers such as Marshalls, Sports Authority, Kohl’s, and to the German discount grocer, Aldi, city officials said.
“This is a testament to Coral Springs as a thriving business community, committed to working hard to attract businesses and helping them succeed,” Coral Springs Mayor Vincent Boccard said.
