Two Big Development Sites Go Before County Commission For Approval

Two big development projects are seeking approval before the Broward County Commission on Feb. 11.
Forman Industrial Land wants zoning approval for a 124-room hotel in exchange for reducing the other commercial uses on the site. It would still be allowed to develop 425,250 square feet of commercial space and a 20,000-square-foot bank on the 152.7-acre site.
Called College Crossings Two, the project is on the south side of Interstate 595 between Davie Road and Florida’s Turnpike.
Forman Industrial Land is controlled by Miles Austin Forman, a long-time developer in Broward and a former executive with Barnett Bank in the 1980s before it became part of Bank of America.
In 2012, Forman Industrial Land sold a neighboring site for $10.1 million to Charleston, S.C.-based CRP-GREP College Crossings, which is building 376 apartments there.
Meanwhile, Holman Automotive proposed the construction of a 100,000-square-foot dealership plus 120,000 square feet for automotive storage in Fort Lauderdale. The site 5.7-acre site at 2627 S. Andrews Avenue, just south of State Road 84, was sold by Causeway Lumber to Holman Automotive for $5.6 million in March 2013.
Holman Automotive plans to build a dealership and service center for BMWs and MINIs there and relocate the lumber store.
