Swire Shortlists Contractors For Brickell CitiCentre Foundation & Garage

Swire Properties Inc.has shortlisted four internationally-recognized  contractors to bid on construction of the foundation and underground parking garage below Brickell CitiCentre, a contract worth more than$100 million. Brickell CitiCentre is the single largest project currently under development in Miami. Barring any delays by local government in completing the public partner agreements, this shortlist process will facilitate the project launch on schedule this June.
The four finalists include Balfour Beatty; Bouygues Bâtiment International through its local subsidiary Americaribe Inc. with John Moriarty & Associates of Florida; Turner Construction Company in partnership with Dragados USA; and Odebrecht with Facchina, all of which maintain offices and employees in the South Florida area. These finalists were selected from 10 contractors in a competitive process that included a full credential review. Each of the contractors presented innovative approaches to engineering and construction of the underground garage, one of the most unique features of Brickell CitiCentre. The foundation and underground parking project will span seven acres 24 feet below ground and construction is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete.
“This is a unique opportunity to hear the best and brighest ideas from some of the world’s leading construction companies, whose prestige and track records of success both on international and local levels speak to the transformative effect Brickell CitiCentre will have on the area,” said Christopher Gandolfo , senior vice president, development, Swire Properties. “We are eager to keep the project on schedule as the public partner agreements are now the only sources of potential delay.”
As part of the final selection, Swire will review each contractor’s proposed technique and pricing to construct the underground parking garage, as well as each  one’s recommendations for managing traffic, workplace diversity and safety. Additionally, each finalist has been encouraged by Swire to seek out union and non-union labor. The winning contractor is expected to be notified in June, in time for a late June ground breaking.
Brickell CitiCentre is a $1.05 billion mixed-use development that will be built on nine acres along South Miami Ave. between Eighth Street and Sixth Street in downtown Miami and will offer approximately 2.9 million square feet of office, residential, hotel, and retail and entertainment space. The project is expected to create 1,700 jobs while under construction and 3,700 after completion.
