Swire Names Contractor For Brickell CitiCentre Foundation & Garage

Swire Properties has chosen New York-based Turner Construction Co. with Dragados USA to be the general contractor on the foundation and parking phase of its $1.05 billion Brickell CitiCentre project.
The foundation and underground parking will span 7 acres and take about 18 months to complete. The project will have 3,100 parking spaces.
The first phase of the 9-acre project, to be completed by 2015, will consist of five buildings that will accommodate 520,000 square feet of retail, 800 condominium units, 243 hotel rooms, 93 serviced apartments and a 110,000-square-foot office tower. An additional 110,000 square feet of office space could be part of a second phase to come later.
Swire Properties announced its groundbreaking at an event June 27.
“This first contract was a very competitive process and a tough choice,” Christopher Gandolfo, senior VP of development for Swire Properties, said in a statement. “But at the end of our deliberations we selected Turner Construction Company in partnership with Dragados USA as having a strong team, an advantageous schedule, and an innovative approach to this construction project. In taking environmental impact of the excavation methodologies very much into consideration, they have proposed a program that fits well with Swire Properties’ corporate mandate of sustainability.”
Balfour Beatty Construction lost out to Turner, as did Bouygues Bâtiment International through its local subsidiary Americaribe with John Moriarty & Associates of Florida, and Odebrecht with Facchina.
All four groups, which have local offices, are also under consideration for the much larger main construction contract, worth approximately $500 million.
