Colliers International South Florida has recruited seasoned broker Steven Wasserman to its Industrial Services team. As Executive Vice President, Wasserman will represent institutional property owners in leasing and strategic advice in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Before joining Colliers, Wasserman served as Senior Vice President with JLL.

“Steve’s addition to our South Florida team highlights our growth strategy,” said Ken Krasnow, Colliers International’s Executive Managing Director for South Florida. “At Colliers, we value institutional knowledge and a deep understanding of the market forces continuously reshaping the South Florida real estate market. By creating a team of experienced dealmakers with strong relationships in the business community, our clients are well served.”

A leading South Florida industrial broker, Wasserman brings to Colliers more than 35 years of industrial property knowledge, navigating complex issues from build-to-suit, land development, environmental, and acquisition and disposition of these specialized properties. Over the years, he has marketed over 2 million square feet of institutional leasing and sold hundreds of thousands of square feet of owner/user properties.  Some of his recent deals include the sale of 10 acres in Davie to Bridge Development, which built a 145,800-square-foot Class A distribution facility. Wasserman and a partner were tapped to lease the industrial building to Pet Supermarket and Challenge Warehouse. Wasserman also arranged the recent sale of 10 acres in Davie to client Becknell Industrial, later leasing out the 133,000-square-foot building.

“The decision to join Colliers really feels like coming home,” said Wasserman, who had spent 25 years with Colliers in South Florida prior to his previous role. “I’ve experienced and witnessed the evolution of Colliers in this region and I’m glad to be part of a team powered by a renewed culture that is able to quickly respond and adapt to our fast-evolving real estate market.”

The growth of the industrial services team represents Colliers’ commitment to bolster key specialty areas in response to market demands. Case in point: the Broward County industrial market is poised to finish the year with a record-breaking net absorption level. Third quarter net absorption totaled 726,306 square feet, bringing the year-to-date net absorption to 1.6 million square feet, up from 1.4 million square feet during the same period in 2015 and 1.1 million square feet during the same period in 2014.

Colliers’ expansion comes at a time when the nation’s industrial market is expected to remain strong into 2017  due to the growth of e-commerce, emerging new industries and the explosion of the food and beverage industry. Tenants across South Florida will be seeking out new types of industrial spaces, such as last-mile distribution centers and cold storage facilities. Additionally, the region’s land constraints, the redevelopment of urban cores and new transportation options are increasingly boosting demand for infill industrial properties closer to urban cores.

Wasserman is an active member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR,) interim chair of the Council for Educational Change and an active member of the Junior Achievement Fellows Program. Wasserman earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Miami.
