Greg MatusCommercial real estate heavy-hitter Greg Matus has joined Franklin Street, a full-service commercial real estate firm based in Tampa, as regional managing partner.

He specializes in retail investment sales and will focus on the Broward and Palm Beach Counties in South Florida.

Prior to joining Franklin Street, Matus ran Marcus & Millichap’s Fort Lauderdale office as the vice president/regional manager of the company’s Real Estate Investment Services division.

“We are extremely pleased to add a well-connected professional like Greg to our team,” said Deme Mekras, regional managing partner of the Miami Office. “He is a great fit for our organization and I look forward to partnering with him to expand the company’s presence in South Florida.”

“Joining Franklin Street is an opportunity I could not pass up,” said Matus. “They are making a lot of things happen in the local market now and have ambitious plans to grow throughout the Southeast U.S. and beyond. I am excited to be playing a role in that process and joining a talented team of professionals with a clear vision of how to succeed.”

Over the next six months, Matus will focus on opening a new office in the Fort Lauderdale market, adding a team of agents specializing in retail tenant and landlord representation, and growing Franklin Street’s retail investment sales team. Matus said Broward and Palm Counties are ripe for retail.

“I recently returned from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC RECon) convention in Las Vegas and met a lot of companies that have their sights set on South Florida for the first time, or have plans on expanding the presence they already have. We want to build a team to capitalize on those business opportunities, similar to the way Franklin Street is operating in other markets right now.”

Matus has been involved in thousands of transactions over his career valued at more than $3 billion. He has expertise, not only in retail, but also in the multifamily, hospitality, office and industrial sectors.  He spent more than a decade at Marcus & Millichap in various roles. In addition to his position as vice president/regional managerof the Fort Lauderdale office, he also held that same position in Orlando, was a first vice president of investments, senior associate and director of the national retail group and multifamily housing group. He was named a Top Agent 10 Agent in Fort Lauderdale in 2005 and received multiple Marcus & Millichap’s National Achievement Awards.

“I’m thankful for the opportunities Marcus & Millichap provided me, but now I’m looking forward to joining a team of driven professionals who are all working toward a common goal of building a company that is successful and also offers a great culture of collaboration,” said Matus.

Matus’ hire is part of a larger move for the company to continue growing its South Florida footprint and service lines in the market.

“I want to welcome Greg to the Franklin Street family,” said CEO and managing partner Andrew Wright. “South Florida is a very important market for us, and as we look to grow here and outside of the state, we need the right people on our team leading the charge.  We know from past experience, Greg is one of those guys who can get it done.” Wright continued, “In our business, it is all about the people and relationships. Greg has built relationships with key contacts in the area and he’s an extremely driven individual who is the embodiment of the type of person we want to build an office and team around.”
