Law Firm Shutts & Bowen Inks 70,000 SF Lease

Law firm Shutts & Bowen has signed a 15-year lease for about 70,000 square feet at Miami’s Southeast Financial Center.
The 100-year-old Florida firm will occupy three floors at 200 S. Biscayne Blvd., which will serve as its headquarters effective Nov. 1, 2015.
“We are excited about this move because it will allow us to tailor our office space for our ever-evolving business and technology needs,” said Joseph D. Bolton, firm-wide managing partner, in a statement. “This will be a complete remodel with a new state-of-the-art conferencing center. We aim not just to grow with the times, but to stay ahead of the curve.”
Its new offices will take up 69,155 square feet on the 40th through 42nd floors. Bolton said the firm reviewed multiple locations downtown, as well as its current space, and chose the Southeast center for the flexibility it offered.
“Miami is one of a handful of global ‘edge’ cities, and we are planning this office to maintain top-tier service that befits a first-rank international business center,” said Kevin D. Cowan, co-chairman of the firm’s real estate department, in a statement. “Our clients now come from around the world, and we are tailoring our long-term plans to anticipate our clients’ future needs and demands for service.”
Shutts & Bowen was represented in the lease by Cresa Partners, and Southeast Financial Center was represented by Jones Lang LaSalle.
The full-service business law firm lists 94 of its approximately 250 lawyers in its Miami office, with other locations in Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Orlando, Tallahassee, Tampa and Sarasota.
The firm, a fixture in Miami since its founding in 1910, will move from its present location across the street at Miami Center at 201 S. Biscayne, where it was one of the building’s first tenants in 1984. Shutts & Bowen now occupies 68,787 square feet on the 14th through 16th floors.
