American Express To Buy 40-Acre Sawgrass Site

American Express announced plans to buy a site in Sunrise for the construction of a 400,000-square-foot facility, and potentially more.
The company has been in Broward County for decades and currently leases a large office in Plantation for about 3,200 employees.
The 40-acre parcel is on the east side of Northwest 136th Avenue just south of Sunrise Boulevard. The company didn’t disclose the price.
“Following the land purchase, we will work with city of Sunrise and Broward County officials to obtain approval of our construction design plans,” American Express spokeswoman Stacey Orange said. “Construction could begin in the fourth quarter of 2014 at the earliest. Once construction begins on what will become a world-class, eco-friendly facility, the project is expected to take approximately three years to complete.” She added that the site has room for future growth.
That property is currently owned by FDG Flagler Plaza LLC, of Jacksonville.
